Aggregate Surfacing

Does your roof-top require additional impact resistance or possibly a UL 790 Class A Fire Rating over a combustible deck? Adding an aggregate such as 3M #11 ceramic granules, Shasta #9 quartz, Lucas Bright White, or Lone Star 18/20 or medium aquarium to the wet topcoat of protective coating will provide a finish look to the roof system which compliments its surroundings while increasing its impact and foot traffic resistance. These aggregates are applied at the rate of 40 to 50 pounds per 100 square feet. Severe foot traffic or maintenance areas are typically reinforced with a double aggregate. To accomplish this, after the first application of aggregate is installed, the surface is blown free of loose aggregate and an additional two gallons per 100 square feet of protective coating is installed into which the second layer of aggregate is embedded, providing a durable tough finish surface. Energy Star rating can be achieved using Lucas Bright White.

Cementitious Coatings

Roof areas that are subjected to heavy foot traffic or require a UL 790 Class A rating over a combustible deck are properly protected with United Coatings' Traffic Guard or Young Builders' Duragard. This traffic topping is installed over SPF protective coating by broadcasting 64 pounds per 100 square feet of #6 crushed limestone into the wet topcoat. The cementitious roof mixture is then spray-applied at ¼ inch thickness, providing a tough reflective roof surface finish. This traffic topping is the choice of many specifiers and building owners for new construction projects. The durability of thse traffic toppings allow other trades to properly complete rooftop work with minimal damage to the roof system.
